David Warner, Anrich Nortje available for selection against LSG: DC coach Shane Watson

After a heartbreaking 14-run loss in the last game against the Gujarat Titans, the Delhi Capitals will look to get back to winning ways when they face Lucknow Super Giants in their next IPL 2022 clash at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on April 7. Meanwhile, two of DC’s seasoned overseas players are set to feature in this game.

Just a day before their next match against Lucknow, the Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson has confirmed that David Warner and Anrich Nortje will be available for selection. The news comes as a morale-booster for the franchise as far as both their batting and bowling attacks are concerned.

“David Warner is definitely out of quarantine period now and is available for tomorrow night’s game, which is very exciting. Anrich Nortje has been doing incredibly well over the last couple of weeks since he’s arrived here in India. Last night, he passed his last sort of fitness test to get through and be passed fit for selection, which is exciting that he’s now available for selection,” said Watson in the pre-match virtual press conference.

Meanwhile, Watson also made it clear that Mitchell Marsh is doubtful for the Lucknow game as he is still recovering from a hip flexor injury that he suffered while training ahead of Pakistan ODIs.

“Mitch Marsh is progressing really well. Whether he’s available for selection, there is still one more training session as well to get through tonight. But he’s been progressing really well which is very exciting with the firepower he brings to the Delhi squad as well”, he said.

David Warner was bought by DC for INR 6.25 crore at the two-day mega auction in February. After featuring in the Test series against Pakistan, he missed the white-ball leg to participate in the ongoing tournament. However, he could only make himself available for selection after April 5 due to Cricket Australia (CA)’s central contract rules.

Anrich Nortje, on the other hand, was one of Delhi’s mandatory retentions for this season. He had some fitness issues and was not seen in action since November last year due to a back and hip injury. Thus, the Proteas speedster was forced to miss DC’s first two games.
