David Warner: A giant against Pakistan

Warner

Some batters just love batting against an opposition. They tend to enjoy every time they go out in the middle to bat against that particular side. Be it Tests, ODIs, or T20Is a batter relishes the opportunity and scores heavily against his favoured opponent. One such case is that of Australia’s David Warner and his exceptional Test record against Pakistan.

Let’s take a look at David Warner’s prolific record against Asian team Pakistan

Swashbuckling Australia opener, Warner, loves batting against Pakistan in the longest and purest format of the game. He played his first Test match against the Asian side in October 2014 and since then he has scored truckloads of runs. In the first very first innings in Dubai, Warner notched up 133 runs off 174 deliveries which included 11 fours and two sixes. He amassed 29 runs off 27 balls in the second innings of that Test.

Overall, the southpaw has chalked up 1152 runs in eight Tests with a stellar average of 104.72 and the highest score of a staggering 335*. In 12 innings, Warner has struck five centuries and three fifties at a strike rate of 78.10. In five of those eight matches, Warner’s runs have helped the team in defeating Pakistan with all the five games being played in Australia. His eight 50 plus scores read as 133, 58, 144, 113, 55, 154, 335* and 68.

The left-handed batter has smashed 130 fours and seven sixes in these eight matches. The pocket-sized dynamo slammed a triple century in Adelaide in the year 2019 which was a Day/Night Test match. His score of mammoth unbeaten 335 runs is the highest score by any batter in a Day/Night game. One of the most devastating opening batters in limited-overs cricket, Warne proved his credentials in the Test arena as well when he faced 418 deliveries to notch up 335*. It included 39 fours and a solitary six in the innings.

Among the active players, only Angelo Mathews and Kane Williamson have score more runs (1372 and 1242, respectively) than Warner against Pakistan. But Mathews (34) and Williamson (22) have appeared in more innings compared to Warner. In the ODI format as well, Warner averages 52.00 against the Asian team in 12 innings. He has scored 674 runs with three centuries and one fifty and the highest score of 179. Interestingly, his highest score in Tests and ODIs have both come against Pakistan.
