Dale Steyn hits back at Simon Doull for ‘mid-life crisis’ comment
Dale Steyn, on Friday, February 26, made his debut in the 2021 Pakistan Super League (PSL), representing the Quetta Gladiators in their match against the Peshawar Zalmi at the National Stadium in Karachi. During the game, the 37-year-old veteran was seen sporting long hair, which became a topic of discussion inside the commentary box as well.
Simon Doull, the former New Zealand cricketer, and current commentator remarked that Steyn was having “a little mid-life crisis with that hair”. Thereafter, the cameras focussed on Steyn, who was sitting inside the dressing room. The comment didn’t go down well with Steyn by any means.

Dale Steyn hits out
In his first tweet, Steyn asked about the commentator, who made the remarks. One of the users, then, put forth Doull’s name. In his second tweet, Steyn stated that the job of a commentator was to present the details of the game and not to be abusive towards the players.
“If your job is to talk about the game, then do that. But if you use that airtime to abuse anyone for their weight, sexual choices, ethnic backgrounds, lifestyle, etc, or even hairstyles, then I’m afraid I have no time for you as a human. You and anyone else like that to be fair.”

Steyn, however, was delighted to play his maiden PSL game. He was happy to ply his trade in front of the crowds. In that game, the Gladiators lost by three wickets after failing to defend 198.
“That’s all I have to say. It was a great time last night, fantastic to play in front of crowds again, cricket is so much better that way. We lost but hopeful to pull it together in our remaining games. Thanx for the support Have a great weekend everyone.”

Steyn was a tad on the expensive side as well. He picked up the crucial wickets of Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Haider Ali, who became the Player of the Match.
But in his last over, he conceded 21 runs. Sherfane Rutherford hit him for a six after which Wahab Riaz cleared the ropes two times. In his quota of four overs, Steyn leaked 44 runs.
