CWC 2019: India vs New Zealand – And it rained…
The match between India and New Zealand was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to inclement weather. Despite the best efforts of the groundsmen at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, persistent rains meant that not a single delivery could be bowled in the match.
The washout means that the encounter between India and New Zealand becomes the fourth match in the tournament to not have a result due to rain. With the match abandoned, both the teams will share one point each. With the point, New Zealand remain at the top of the table with 7 points in 4 matches. India, on the other hand, overtake England to sit on the third spot in the table with 5 points in 3 matches.
Heading into the contest, the forecast seemed glum with many areas in the United Kingdom being affected by severe weather. The toss was initially delayed due to a wet outfield but the rains returned reducing the possibility of having a full 50-overs per side match to a bare minimum.
India will now look forward to a blockbuster encounter against Pakistan on June 16 at Old Trafford in Manchester. New Zealand will next face off against South Africa at Edgbaston in Birmingham on June 19.
