CWC 2019: ICC approves Sri Lanka’s request to continue lucky yellow kit
Sri Lanka revived the World Cup 2019 by beating England in their last encounter. The win not only renewed hopes of Sri Lanka but also kept Pakistan and Bangladesh alive in the competition. After posting 232/9 at Leeds, the Asian team skittled the home side for 212 runs and screamed to a 20-run victory. Lasith Malinga was the star with the bowling figures of 4/43.
As per ICC rules, teams have to wear a different coloured jersey in case of a clash during televised tournaments. Against Afghanistan and England, Sri Lanka wore the yellow coloured kit and was announced as the away team. The island nation went on to win both the matches. They usually wear a blue colour dominated kit.
Sri Lankan team management has taken a liking for the away kit. They requested ICC’s approval for continuing the same jersey in all three remaining games. “We approved Sri Lanka’s request to carry on wearing yellow as the colour. Every team chose an alternate colour prior to the start of the tournament,” an ICC spokesman said.
Dimuth Karunaratne’s team has six points from their six matches. They have wins over Afghanistan and England while conceded losses against New Zealand and Australia. Their two matches have been washed out. Ideally, Sri Lanka needs to win all three remaining games to be in contention of a semi-final spot. They take on South Africa next followed by clashes versus West Indies and India.
