CWC 2019: BAN vs SL Review – Rain dominates another day

England’s rain dominated another day in the 2019 World Cup. The spectators, players and the officials had to endure incessant rain and endlessly postponed inspections before the match was eventually called off. The encounter between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at County Ground, Bristol is now the third match of the tournament which has been washed off. Both teams will share a point each.

Even before the match day, there were predictions of such an event occurring. Current weather in England is not suitable for cricket. Plenty of county matches have also been rained off. While some play was possible in yesterday’s South Africa and West Indies clash at Southampton, none took place today at Bristol. Rain delayed the toss and scheduled inspections were constantly postponed until the rain was too heavy.

The encounter against Sri Lanka was especially crucial for Bangladesh with the Bangla tigers being slight favourites in the game. They defeated South Africa in their opening game but lost the next two clashes against New Zealand and England. The Sri Lankan side, currently on 3 points, was also searching for a win after their last match versus Pakistan was abandoned due to rain.

Sri Lanka will feature in the action next on 15th June at Kennington Oval against Australia while Bangladesh shall take on West Indies at Taunton on 17th June. Both teams will hope for the rain to stay away from the venues.
