Chasing mammoth targets demand some pre-planned strategies as well as executing them at the right time. The task gets even more difficult when the team loses quick wickets in the second innings and a well-set batter needs to set a calculative mindset of when he needs to cut loose and play aggressively.

Meanwhile, there have been a few teams who have succeeded in getting their calculations right while chasing targets on a consistent basis over the years. Here’s a look at three of them.

3. Australia – 11

Australia have been the most successful side in the history of One Day Internationals with five World Cups to their name. At the same time, the Aussies have also been consistent when it comes to chasing targets in excess of 300. Australia have successfully chased down 300+ targets on 11 occasions and only once have they lost while chasing, which happened against India in the series-deciding seventh ODI in Bengaluru in November 2013.

2. England – 13

England are the reigning ODI world champions and have played some outstanding cricket in this format after their humiliating ouster from the 2015 World Cup in Australia & New Zealand. They have registered world record scores of 481 and 498 in One Day Internationals in the last five years.

When it comes to chasing targets in excess of 300 in the 50-overs format, the Three Lions are at the second position having got the job done on 13 occasions which makes them one of the most dangerous chasing sides in the world.

1. India – 18

India occupy the ‘Numero Uno’ spot on this elite list, having been the most successful and consistent chasing team in One Day Internationals. This has been possible largely due to their famed batting line-up, especially the top-order.

The Men in Blue have successfully pulled off 300+ run chases on a record 18 occasions in the 50-overs format. The famous ones include the historic 326-run chase against England at Lord’s in the tri-series final in 2002.

India’s highest successful run chase in One Day Internationals is 362/1 against Australia in an ODI match at Jaipur in October 2013, which was chased down in only 43.3 overs courtesy of unbeaten centuries from batting megastars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
