Cricketing fraternity celebrates success of Chandrayaan-3

India’s third lunar space mission Chandrayan-3 was successfully completed on Wednesday, August 23, as the Vikram Lander Module made the soft landing on the Moon’s surface. The entire nation is celebrating the momentous achievement. India became the fourth nation in the world to land on the Moon after the United States, Soviet Union, and China. Interestingly, India became the first nation to make a successful landing on the South Pole of the celestial body.

ISRO launched Chandrayaan-3 on 14 July 2023 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. It was ISRO’s (Indian Space Research Organisation) second attempt after the failure of the Chandrayan-2 mission, which faced challenges while soft landing on the lunar surface in 2019.

The real test of the Chandrayaan mission began at the last leg of the landing. During the crucial phase, ISRO initiated Automatic Landing sequence (ALS) which allowed Vikram LM to use its on-board computers and logic to identify a favourable spot to make a soft landing on the lunar surface. The successful completion of the landing sent the entire nation into a frenzy as they had waited with bated breath for it.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission’s lander, Vikram Lander Module, is named after Vikram Sarabhai (1919-1971). He is widely regarded as the father of the Indian space programme.

Meanwhile, the entire Indian cricketing fraternity also expressed their elation on the proud moment for the country and congratulated ISRO for the success of the mission.
