County Championship 2022: Lancashire sign Hasan Ali for the upcoming season
Pakistan’s premier fast bowler, Hasan Ali, is all set for a county stint with English county side Lancashire. The club that has their home base at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester has recently completed their overseas signing by getting Ali on board for the 2022 County Championship. As per a recent statement by Lancashire, Hasan Ali is expected to make his county debut against Essex on May 19th after arriving at Old Trafford on April 1st. Commenting further on Ali’s stint was the head coach, Glen Chapple, who suggested the bowler has been signed for the side’s first six matches at the 2022 county season.
“We are delighted to have signed Hasan for the first six matches of this summer’s County Championship. We’ve been carefully assessing our options and looking to add the right overseas player to help us achieve our goals,” Chapple said, as quoted by News 18.
I am very proud to follow in the footsteps of Wasim Akram, says Hasan Ali
Speaking on the signing, Hasan Ali expressed his excitement about playing for a club that has also had former Pakistan legend, Wasim Akram, as one of their past overseas signings. He further went on to state his desire to contribute to his team’s cause once he joins the squad next month.
“I am very proud to follow in the footsteps of Wasim Akram, a Pakistan legend, who always talks so highly of his time with Lancashire. I can’t wait to join up with the squad in April and I hope to make a significant contribution in the games that I play,” Ali said.
The right-arm fast bowler has so far fared decently in his short Test career for Pakistan. Ali has snared 72 wickets in 17 Tests at an impressive average of 21.6. Having made his ODI and T20I debut in 2016, he broke into the Test side in 2017 making his red-ball debut against the West Indies. He also has six five-wicket hauls to his name in the longest format of the game.
