Confirmed! IPL 2020 set to be played from September 19 in UAE
The 2020 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on September 19. The final will be played on November 8, as confirmed by IPL GC Chairman Brijesh Patel to Cricbuzz.
Earlier, it was reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had written a letter to the Indian government seeking permission to host the IPL in the UAE. It is understood that the board received clearance for the same on Friday morning.
The IPL Governing Council will be meeting next week to discuss further details regarding the tournament’s planning. It is also understood that the BCCI has informally informed all eight franchises about the competition being held outside India.
“IPL, in all likelihood, will start on September 19 (Saturday) and the final will be held on November 8 (Sunday). It is a 51-day window which will suit the franchises as well as the broadcasters and other stakeholders,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
The decision comes after the ICC officially postponed the 2020 Men’s T20 World Cup to next year.
