Chris Morris went for a lot of money than I would’ve ever paid for: Kevin Pietersen
Rajasthan Royals shelled a whopping amount of Rs 16.25 crore for South Africa cricketer Chris Morris in the auction for IPL 2021. The cricketer has played all the matches so far this season for the franchise but hasn’t delivered as per expectations, especially with the ball. Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has opined on the Proteas player now and stated that he would’ve never paid that amount to Morris.
Morris won a game for the Royals against Delhi Capitals with the bat scoring an unbeaten 36 but he is yet to have a good day with the ball. In the four matches he has played, the South African has conceded 139 runs in 14 overs and has picked only five wickets. Even in the game against RCB, he went for 38 runs in his three overs as the opposition chased 178 without losing a wicket.
Speaking about the same, Kevin Pietersen reckoned that the Royals are paying too much money for Chris Morris and he would’ve never paid the all-rounder that much. The former England skipper felt that Morris is feeling the pressure of the price tag.
“This is going to sound harsh, but he went for a lot more money than I would have ever paid for, to be completely honest. I just don’t think that he’s worth that kind of number. I think there’s pressure on him. He’s not a first choice for the South African side,” Pietersen said while talking to Star Sports.
There’s nothing special about what Morris does, says Kevin Pietersen
Kevin Pietersen also went on to say that Chris Morris won’t deliver consistently and even if he performs in the future, he would go missing in the next few matches in terms of giving his best in the tournament. “I think we’re expecting too much. There’s too much talk about him.
“I don’t think he’s the kind of guy that’s going to consistently deliver. I mean this with the greatest deal of respect. There’s nothing special about what he does, and if he does run-in, he’ll run in for two games. And then he’ll go missing for a few games and it’s not the kind of thing that you should be seeing. He has the attributes,” Pietersen further added.
