Chris Green suspended from bowling for illegal action

Australian all-rounder Chris Green, who was recently picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders during the IPL auctions has been suspended from bowling. The decision comes after his action was found to be illegal during the ongoing edition of the Big Bash League. The off-spinner won’t be allowed to bowl for a minimum of 90 days according to regulations of Cricket Australia.

Green’s bowling action was reported by umpires Nathan Johnstone, Mike Graham-Smith and third umpire Paul Wilson after Sydney Thunder’s match against Melbourne Stars. Green then underwent extensive testing on his bowling action at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane. The tests concluded that his action was illegal. After the completion of his 90-day suspension, Green will undergo testing again where he will have to rework on his action.

Chris Green has played every match for the Thunder so far, picking up 3 wickets in 7 games. He has the best economy rate amongst all of their bowlers – 7.55.

Peter Roach, CA’s head of cricket operations lavished praise on Green, saying:

“We’d like to commend Chris and the Thunder for the way they have approached this process with complete cooperation and respect. Chris undertook testing at the earliest possible time and satisfactorily replicated his bowling action in the controlled environment. We look forward to working with Chris in the coming months and conducting further testing once the suspension period has elapsed.”

After the news came out, Green was pulled out of the Thunder squad for their clash against the Stars. His absence was sorely missed as a Glenn Maxwell masterclass helped the Stars to a 6 wicket victory.
