Chris Gayle takes cheeky dig at Anil Kumble during a review show
Former Punjab Kings (PBKS) explosive hitter Chris Gayle aimed a subtle dig at former India spin wizard Anil Kumble during the Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction match centre. The IPL 2023 mini-auction saw the ten franchises rejigging their squads and adding fresh faces in order to bolster their side ahead of the new season on Friday in Kochi.
During the review show, Gayle and Kumble, both of whom were present in the expert panel indulged in a rather hilarious banter when the former aimed a subtle dig at the India great. Gayle, who predominantly played as an opener, largely played in the number three spot for Punjab Kings and warmed the bench for a significant time during the 2021 edition. The Caribbean hitter then took a cheeky dig at the former Punjab Kings head coach, Anil Kumble stating that the coach ‘chopped and changed him’.
“I might be on the unlucky side, or should I say (looks at Kumble) what should I say?,” Gayle’s statement sparked off laughter from not only Kumble but also Eoin Morgan and Scott Styris, who were part of the panel of auction review on Jio Cinema.
“Both of us are on the same page,” responded the former India spin wizard.
“I’ve been on the unlucky side a few times. Anil is not there now. He was a part of it but he chopped and changed me, that’s a reason why he is sitting next to me now. They chopped and changed him. You know what I’m saying? Hopefully, it can be a better cause this time around!” added Gayle aiming a dig at the former PBKS head coach.
