Chaminda Vaas to continue as Sri Lanka’s fast bowling consultant
A meeting was organized between the SLC management and Vass where both the parties calmly resolved the issue.
Last month, former Sri Lanka cricketer and fast bowling coach of the current National team Chaminda Vass hogged the limelight after he handed over his registration to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on the eve of the team’s scheduled travel to West Indies for a long tour comprising three-match T20I and ODI series followed by two Test games.
There were speculations of a feud between SLC and Vass regarding the pay-scale. It was learned that Chaminda, who was appointed as the fast bowling coach as a potential replacement for David Saker after he had resigned citing personal reasons, was demanding an increase in his salary but the SLC wasn’t agreeing to it owing to the crisis due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The Sri Lanka board had also issued an official statement on the matter after the seamer had handed over his resignation saying that it is disheartening to see the veteran holding ‘the game at ransom’ and just thinking about his personal gains.
SLC releases an official statement over Chaminda Vaas’ resignation
“It is particularly disheartening to note that in an economic climate such as the one facing the entire globe right now, Mr. Vaas has made this sudden and irresponsible move on the eve of the team’s departure, based on personal monetary gain,” SLC had said in an official statement.
However, it is now learned that the issue between Chaminda Vaas and the authorities has been resolved as the veteran has decided to withdraw his resignation and will be continuing his stint as the fast bowling consultant of the National team. A meeting was organized between the SLC management and Vass where both the parties calmly talked about the issue and were able to amicably reach a conclusion.
“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to inform you that pursuant to a meeting that was held between Mr. Chaminda Vaas and the Management Team of Sri Lanka Cricket, the matters which led to his resignation were amicably resolved. Vaas withdrew his submitted Letter of Resignation and agreed to continue as the Fast Bowling Consultant to Sri Lanka Cricket, the position which he held prior to his resignation,” SLC said in an official statement as quoted by Times of India.
