Bundled under 100: Teams with most sub-100 totals in the IPL

Dhawan

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is known for big totals and run-fests but seldom, we got to see teams tumbling apart. It could be due to poor pitch conditions, scoreboard pressure or quality of opposition’s bowling. Only a few teams have been regular at recording such low totals. The team with the most number of totals below 100 in the IPL is Delhi Daredevils, now Delhi Capitals. The Delhi franchise has been all out for a total under 100 in the IPL on as many as ten instances; nearly twice the number of times by the next best.

The second spot is shared by Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians with six totals of below 100. Both the teams were bowled out under 100 on five occasions apiece while once, they failed to reach the 100-run mark despite not being bowled out in 20 overs. Mumbai’s name in this list could surprise quite a lot of people as the 4-time IPL champions always had a strong batting line-up. However, this could be due to the MI team playing the highest number of IPL matches.

The MI were bowled out at the score of 92 exactly on three occasions and at 87 on two instances. MI and RCB were successful in restricting opposition below 100 on six occasions each as well. Only Chennai Super Kings (7) were more successful in keeping the opponents under 100-run mark than MI and RCB. Talking about failing to reach 100 most times, Kings XI Punjab finds the 4th place with five such totals while Rajasthan Royals are at No.4 with four of them including 58/10 in 2009; the 2nd lowest IPL total ever.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore, however, holds the record for most IPL totals coming under 75. Between 2014 and 2019, the RCB team recorded three totals of 70 and less in the IPL including the all-time lowest of 49 in the 2017 edition at the Eden Gardens. The Kolkata Knight Riders have been restricted to below 100 totals twice in the IPL while CSK, SRH, PWI and KTK had one such total apiece. RPS and GL teams were never restricted to a total below 100 in the IPL.
