Brad Hogg reckons David Warner might lead RCB in IPL 2022
David Warner’s fortunes took an astonishing turn in the T20 World Cup 2021 as the southpaw played several staggering knocks during the course of the competition. Riding on his prowess, Australia lifted the elusive title by defeating Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand by eight wickets in the final clash. Interestingly, Warner endured a rough patch ahead of the global event and many even believed he shouldn’t be an automatic pick in the playing XI.
It was majorly because Warner struggled big time in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. While the southpaw was Sunrisers Hyderabad at the start of the competition, he didn’t even find a place in the dug-out in the latter part. However, the swashbuckling opener brushed aside the disappointment and brought his A-game out in the T20 World Cup.
David Warner was named the Player of the Tournament in T20 World Cup 2021
Overall, he scored 289 runs in six outings, the second-highest for any batter in the event. His blitzes also earned him the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award. With Warner going back to his prime, he would be one of the players to watch out for in the IPL 2022 mega auctions. Notably, the eight existing teams will be allowed to retain just four players ahead of the next season’s bidding event.

With Warner’s association in all probability terminated with SRH, the southpaw is set to land in the auction pool. Needless to mention, many franchises would like to bag his services and the same would fetch Warner massive bucks. Speaking on the matter, former Australian spinner Brad Hogg feels Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) would pick the dynamic batter.
For the unversed, Virat Kohli had announced that he won’t lead RCB from the next season onwards. Hence, the franchise openers need to pick a suitable leader in the auction event. Highlighting the same, Hogg said RCB might rope Warner for the crucial role.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up at RCB because that kind of wicket will suit him at Bangalore and they need a leader. The RCB might get him in because of his captaincy record as Kohli has relinquished his post,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.
