Birthday special: Jos Buttler – His best knocks across formats

Jos Buttler is one of the most important assets of the England cricket team in all formats of the game. The wicket-keeper batsman has featured in 53 Tests, 148 ODIs and 82 T20Is for England. While the right-hander has plundered 2800 runs in Test cricket, he has amassed 3872 runs in the ODI format of the game.

In T20I cricket, Buttler has scored 1871 runs at a strike rate of 139.84. Buttler is also a part of the IPL and has played 65 matches in IPL cricket, where he has scored 1968 runs at an excellent strike rate of 150.0. With Buttler turning 31 today, let us take a look at his best knocks each in Tests, ODIs, T20Is, as well as IPL cricket.

Tests – 152 vs Pakistan (2020)

This knock was played in August 2020, against Pakistan at Southampton. England batted first and scored 583 runs. And, Zak Crawley and Jos Buttler were the two batsmen who plundered runs at will. While Crawley scored a double century, Buttler scored a classy 311-ball 152. Buttler scored 13 fours and 2 sixes in his innings.

Pakistan was bowled out for a total of 273 in reply and were asked to follow on. Pakistan’s scorecard read 187/4 in the second innings, as rain played spoilsport and the match ended in a draw.

ODIs – 150 vs West Indies (2019)

Jos Buttler absolutely hammered the West Indian bowling attack to all parts of the ground on 27th February 2019. The right-handed batsman scored a blistering 150 off just 77 deliveries and put on a match-winning partnership of 204 runs with Eoin Morgan to power England to a total of 418/6 in their allotted 50 overs.

The West Indies also produced a good performance with the willow in reply. Riding on a magical 162 at the top of the order by Chris Gayle, the West Indian outfit scored 389 and went down to England by 29 runs.

T20Is – 83* vs India (2021)

Jos Buttler’s best T20I knock came against India in March 2021. India batted first and posted a total of 156 on the board in their allotted 20 overs. And in reply, it was Buttler’s ravishing knock that rendered the Indian side clueless.

The right-handed opening batsman smashed 83* at a strike rate of close to 160, as England overhauled the target with 8 wickets and 10 balls to spare. Buttler’s innings was filled with 5 fours and 4 sixes, and he also won the Player of the Match award.

IPL – 124 vs SRH (2021)

The Sunrisers Hyderabad side was at the receiving end of a murderous assault from the willow of Jos Buttler on 2nd May 2021. Turning out for the Rajasthan Royals, Buttler scored a 64-ball 124, and helped his side post a gargantuan total of 220 runs in 20 overs. Buttler’s innings was studded with 11 fours and 8 sixes.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad side could only muster a total of 165/8 in their quota of 20 overs and went down to Rajasthan by 55 runs. Needless to say, the Player of the Match award was won by Jos Buttler.
