Birthday special: Ellyse Perry – One of the greatest women’s cricketers of all time
All-rounder Ellyse Perry, born on 3rd November 1990, is regarded as one of the greatest female players, the world of cricket has witnessed so far. She became the youngest from Australia to have appeared in international cricket and the first one who has played both ICC and FIFA World Cups. Perry mastered both the facets of the game, and it was quite visible in her wonderful achievements. She became the first player to have 1000 runs and 100 wickets simultaneously in T20Is.

She has several achievements to her name, and one of them is being the highest Test scorer from the Australian team in women’s cricket (She played an unbeaten knock of 213 runs, and that was the highest Test score). She became the third woman to name 150 scalps under her belt in women’s ODIs. Her strong participation in various T20 leagues, international and domestic level cricket has led to teams winning a number of precious titles.
She has won six world championships with her national team and eleven Women’s National Cricket League Championships with New South Wales. She has also bagged two Women’s Big Bash League titles with Sydney Sixers. She has been honoured with various awards for her unmatchable contribution to the field of women’s cricket. She has won the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Award twice and has thrice been the recipient of the Belinda Clark Award.
The most widely recognized honour came for her when she was named as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Decade: 2010-19. It is due to her on-field appearance and the aura and stature she carries outside the field, she is credited for being the leading figure for ‘rising female presence in Australia’s sports culture.’ In 2019, she was even named as ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year.
The all-rounder, Perry, is known for bowling right-arm fast-medium and right-handed batting. She bowls usually around 110 and 115 Km/h but can touch till 125 km/h. She is also a skilled fielder whose hands are considered absolutely safe while she is on the field. Her tall and athletic build adds to her sporting personality. She has 693 runs and 33 wickets in WTests. She has 3135 runs and 152 wickets in WODIs and 1253 runs and 115 wickets in WT20Is.
