Bhopal hosts cricket tournament consisting pandits and Sanskrit commentary
A cricket tournament consisting of Vedic pandits was hosted by Bhopal, which is the capital city of Madhya Pradesh state. The dress code to participate in the tournament was dhoti kurta for players. The commentary of every game was done in the Sanskrit language. The tournament was played in Ankur ground situated in the city to mark the birth anniversary of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
This was the second year of this tournament which is played for four days. The objective of this tournament was to promote sportsmanship and the ancient language among the Vedic families. The winners were rewarded with cash prizes, Vedic books, and a 100-year almanac. Meanwhile, Sanskrit Bachao Manch’s state president Chandrashekhar Tiwari said that players who participate in the tournament are the ones who perform rituals as per the Vedas.
“Players in this tournament are those who perform rituals as per the Vedas,” Sanskriti Bachao Manch’s state president Chandrashekhar Tiwari stated as quoted by the New Indian Express.
“This is the second year of this tournament in which participants, who are Vedic pandits, play while wearing traditional dhoti (or Mundu) and kurtas. They speak to each other in Sanskrit. The match commentary is also in Sanskrit.”
When he was asked if a player faces a problem while playing in the traditional attire, he said that no one faces any problems. In fact, he revealed that he hit sixes in the Monday games.
“No problem is faced during fielding in the dhoti-kurta attire. I also hit sixes and fours during Monday’s match,” Tiwari added.
