Best ODI figures by an Indian bowler at Lord’s
Bowlers are known to be quite greedy when it comes to taking wickets and are never content on the field. India has a memorable connection with the Lord’s as it has served up some of the most celebrated moments in Indian cricket’s history. While it has been the batters who have often taken the limelight, some of the best performances have also come from the Indian bowlers at the venue over the years.
3. Ashish Nehra – 3/26, 2004
England welcomed India for the third and final ODI match of the three-match series, which they had already sealed by winning the two opening matches. Sourav Ganguly won the toss and elected to bat first, with the skipper scoring a brilliant 90 opening the batting, but did not find any support from other batters apart from Rahul Dravid’s half-century as India fizzled out for 204. Chasing a below-par score. the hosts were rocked early in their innings by Ashish Nehra, who dismissed both their openers cheaply and laid the foundation for other bowlers. Nehra then returned to culminate England’s innings by cleaning up Darren Gough as India won by 23 runs.
2. Mohinder Amarnath – 3/12, 1983
Arguably one of the most important victories in the history of Indian cricket came at the home of cricket in the 1983, when India took on the mighty West Indies team in the World Cup final. Kapil Dev’s team were under pressure after posting a paltry 183 runs in the first innings. But the Indian team never gave up the fight and continued chipping away at the wickets as the defending champions stumbled in their chase. Mohinder Amarnath ended the resilience from the lower order and returned with impressive figures of 3/12 in India’s historic triumph. He was named man of the match for his all-around display in the final.
1. Yuzvendra Chahal – 4/47, 2022
Yuzvendra Chahal made the English batters dance to his tunes in the second ODI of the three-match series at Lord’s. The shrewd leg-spinner read the conditions well and varied his lengths as there was not much spin on offer earlier in the innings. England, who had a decent start to their batting innings, were looking to consolidate but were bamboozled by Chahal’s trickery. The batters kept trying to sweep the ball without any success as the diminutive spinner was quite clever in varying his pace and lengths. Chahal finished with four wickets to his name, the most by any Indian bowler at the iconic venue.
