Best bowling figures in Women’s Tests
Red ball cricket is the toughest form of the sport, and while the male cricketers indulge in several Test matches throughout the year, the female players get minimal opportunities to showcase their talent. Nevertheless, the players have outperformed whenever they were handed a chance and, on that note, let us look at the three best bowling figures in the Women’s Test.
11/16 -Betty Wilson vs England in 1958
Way back in 1958, England toured Australia for a four-match Test series. Though the series eventually could not witness a result, with one game getting abandoned and three getting drawn, it was a memorable one for Australia’s Betty Wilson. In the first innings, she picked up 7/7 in 10.3 overs and helped her side reduce the rivals to mere 35 runs after Australia’s 38-run first innings. Betty then notched up a century in the second innings and followed with a four-wicket haul, finishing with 11 wickets.
12/165- Ashleigh Gardner vs England in 2023
Ashleigh Gardner made her way into the list very recently after her heroics with the ball in the first-ever five-day women’s Test. England hosted Australia for the one-off Ashes Test of 2023 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Gardner picked up four crucial wickets in the first innings to restrict England to 463 which came in reply to Australia’s 473. On the fifth and final day, when Australia needed five wickets to win the game and England needed 152 runs, Gardner spun a web to rip apart England’s batting unit. She registered 8/66 in 20 overs and finished with 12 wickets from the game.
13/226 – Shaiza Khan vs West Indies in 2004
Former Pakistan skipper Shaiza Khan represented her team from 1997 to 2004 and produced some amazing spells during her international career. In the final year of her career, during a game against the West Indies, Shaiza picked up a seven-wicket haul in the first innings, registering figures of 7/59 in 16 overs. She followed it up with a six-wicket haul, registering 6/167 in 55 overs, and finished with a total of 13 wickets in the match. The game, though, ended in a draw.
