Bengal skipper and batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran on Wednesday (November 18) tested positive for coronavirus. The cricketer has been quarantined for the next two weeks.

“Abhimanyu underwent a mandatory COVID-19 test and was found positive. He is however asymptotic. He is now quarantined and under the treatment of medical panel of CAB,” CAB joint-secretary Debabrata Das said in a media statement.

25-year-old Easwaran was set to play for East Bengal in the six-team T20 Challenge launched by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). However, his two-week isolation now means that he could miss the entire tournament. The batsman had joined the team’s pre-season camp a few days back.

The inaugural T20 event will kickstart on November 24 (Tuesday) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The entire tournament will be played in a bio-bubble ecosystem.
