BCCI to review India’s T20 World Cup performance
Several of the top BCCI officials will review India’s lacklusture performance in the T20 World Cup 2022. The meeting will be held with skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid on Sunday, January 1 in Mumbai. In addition to Rohit and Dravid, VVS Laxman, who is currently heading the National Cricket Academy is also expected to be a part of the crucial meeting.
The meeting is happening ahead of Sri Lanka’s upcoming limited over series tour of India. India suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Jos Buttler-led England side. The second semi-final of the T20 World Cup mark the end of India’s run in the mega event.
India’s poor run in ICC tournaments
The loss shut the doors on India’s hope of ending its long drought of winning an ICC silverware. Last time India won a major ICC tournament was way back in 2013. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, a young Indian side had defeated hosts England by five runs.
It was MS Dhoni’s third major ICC title, having previously won the inaugural ICC World T20 in South Africa in 2007 and the ICC 50-overs World Cup in 2011 in the Indian subcontinent.
The selection committee led by former India pacer Chetan Sharma that had picked India’s squad for the T20 World Cup. The selection committee was sacked by the BCCI after the culmination of the event.
But, the committee still continues to keep a track on the ongoing Ranji Trophy. They also picked the India’s T20I and ODI squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour at home.
Fresh applications were invited after the sacking of the committee and Harvinder Singh and Chetan Sharma have reapplied for the job. Former wicketkeeper-batter Nayan Mongia and right-arm pacer Venkatesh Prasad are also among those who have applied for the same.
