BCCI President Sourav Ganguly set to be discharged from hospital
Former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is set to be discharged from the hospital on January 6 (Wednesday). The veteran was admitted to Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital in Kolkata on Saturday after he had complained of chest pain and dizziness while exercising in the gym.
It was reported that the BCCI president suffered a mild cardiac arrest and underwent angioplasty after the doctors found blockages in three of his coronary arteries. Earlier, it was decided that Ganguly will undergo another angioplasty but a team of nine senior doctors concluded that he is fit enough and the angioplasty can be deferred to a later date.
Renowned cardiologist Dr. Devi Shetty, who was involved in the case from the beginning via a virtual platform, finally paid a visit to Ganguly on Tuesday. He did a thorough check-up of the former cricketer to ensure that there isn’t any damage to his body and also discussed further treatment.
Dr. Devi Shetty opines on Ganguly’s health
Detailing his opinion on the current health status of Ganguly, Dr. Shetty claimed that the veteran cricketer’s heart is as fit and strong as a 20-year-old. He further said that this is a common heart problem that most people in India suffer at a certain age and there is nothing to worry about. Dr. Shetty also believes that Sourav was admitted to the hospital at the right time and had the right treatment which helped him in recovering better and faster.
“Sourav didn’t have any major problems. This is the problem which most Indians experience at some point in time, which is a blockage in the coronary artery. Did he have heart damage? No. He had a blockage and he was getting some discomfort, but at the right time he landed in the right hospital and he had the right treatment,” said Dr. Shetty, as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.
“His heart is today as strong as it was when Sourav was 20-years-old. I want everyone to understand that he didn’t have a major cardiac event which has damaged his heart. He has a very, very strong heart,” he added.
