BCCI gives in-principle approval to 10-team IPL in 2022

IPL

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given in-principle approval to include two additional teams in the 2022 IPL. The decision was taken at the board’s 89th Annual General Meeting in Ahmedabad on Thursday (December 24).

Starting from the 2022 season, the IPL will see an expansion to 10 teams, instead of the usual eight. It also means that there will be no mega auction going into the 2021 season. The IPL Governing Council is tasked with working out the process and structure of the revamped tournament.

Five NCA centres across India

The BCCI has also decided to launch four more centres of the National Cricket Academy across the country. This will be done to reduce the burden on the only centre at Bengaluru and to give cricketers better access to training and rehabilitation. The venues for these additional centres are yet to be finalised.
