BCCI calls Special Meeting on May 27 for 2023 ODI WC
The BCCI will hold a Special General Meeting (SGM) in Ahmedabad on May 27. A core ‘working group’ will oversee the 2023 ODI World Cup, which is scheduled for October. The apex board will discuss a five-point agenda in the meeting. It will be attended by all affiliates, with Secretary Jay Shah leading the affairs.
According to reports by News18, the working group for the ODI event will consist of the BCCI president, secretary, treasurer, acting CEO, and other senior officials. The board has allocated funds to revamp the stadium infrastructure. The venues will be spectator-friendly for the potential hosting of the ODI World Cup in October. The team will also focus on finalizing the venues and ensuring the smooth conduct of the World Cup on home soil.
The ICC is yet to announce the fixtures for the upcoming World Cup. Additionally, the confirmation of Pakistan’s tour for the event will influence the scheduling.
WPL committee to be formed for development
Among other key pointers on the list, the BCCI will also hold talks to have a committee for the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The committee will be formed in order to ensure the development of the league. Also, players coupled with a dedicated window must be finalised at the earliest.
The officials pondered over the idea of having the event during Diwali. With the ODI World Cup slated during the same time, the WPL could have a different window altogether.
“This year, Australian women’s team will be playing international matches till third week of February and hence you can only start WPL after that. In case, you are looking at Diwali window, then there is men’s World Cup,” a franchisee official told on conditions of anonymity as quoted by News18.
The BCCI will also work on ratifying its Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PSH) policy at the SGM. This comes after the sexual harassment accusations which came to the limelight against former BCCI CEO Rahul Johri.
