BCCI appoints Subhadeep Ghosh as India women’s team fielding coach

Former Assam cricketer Subhadeep Ghosh is set to tour Australia as the fielding coach of the India Women’s team. In 34 first-class and List A matches, Ghosh scored 623 runs with four half-centuries. The right-handed batsman also played for Railways in his short career. For the Australia tour, he will be accompanied by Amogh Pandit, who has been appointed as the trainer.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the All-India Senior Women’s Selection Committee named two separate squads for the one-off Test, three ODIs and as many T20Is. The players have been a part of the training camp in Bengaluru and will have to undergo mandatory quarantining upon reaching Australia.

Subhadeep will be the fielding coach while Amogh is going as the trainer. For now, it is for the Australia tour and a call on a long-term appointment will be taken at the right time,” the source was quoted as saying.

New inclusions for high-profile series

Yastika Bhatia, Meghna Singh and Renuka Singh Thakur are the new faces in the squad. Jemimah Rodrigues made her way into the squad after playing some scintillating knocks for Northern Superchargers in the Women’s Hundred.

Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma, who all played in the Hundred, have made the cut for the Australia tour. Sneh Rana has retained her place in the squads after performing to expectations in England.

Priya Punia, Indrani Roy, Radha Yadav played in England, but have been left out from the Australia tour. The Indian team is set to reach Australia by the end of this month. The last time these two teams met, it was the Aussies, who came out trumps.
