BCCI aims to accommodate domestic players in June-July window
Owing to the second wave of COVID-19 in India, the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League had to be halted. The havoc wreaked by various has affected the cricketing calendar of the year and domestic cricket has also suffered pretty much. As cases continue to rise in the country, it has become difficult for BCCI to clear anything on when and how the tournaments will resume.
After the postponement of IPL 2021, the Indian Board is still looking out for windows and ways to conduct the remaining season successfully. Talking about domestic cricket, it has suffered constantly, where no 2020-21 Ranji Trophy season took place. Though BCCI did manage to resume matches in early 2021 for both men and women in the domestic circuit, the clouds of uncertainties are back again.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was also hosted successfully in India in early 2021. However, now Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI has stated that it will try to adjust domestic players in the June-July window. All the junior players and match officials will get their due fees, reckoned Ganguly. He also made clear that continuing with junior cricket would be a very risky idea in 2021.
“Hopefully, by October, things will settle down. Covid has ruined so much of sport and life. We will compensate all the domestic players in June-July. The junior players, umpires, and scorers will all get their fees,” said Ganguly while speaking to Sportstar.

“How can we expose the young boys to this Covid atmosphere? Imagine a 16-year-old away from the home and their parents and staying in hotels for long periods. This virus is so dangerous. We write to the associations. We can’t have direct access to individuals. We keep the players motivated by speaking with them through their associations,” Ganguly added.
Ganguly also threw light on upcoming tournaments of India. He added that a white ball squad will travel to Sri Lanka this year. Also, they are not giving preference to India for conduction the remaining edition of IPL 2021.
