Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan has extended his contract with the Adelaide Strikers for the upcoming Big Bash League edition. The Strikers confirmed the news on their official Twitter handle.

Rashid made his BBL debut in 2017 and has featured in over 40 matches for the franchise so far. In three editions, he has picked up 56 wickets and stands as the team’s third-highest wicket-taker. He has also been a handy lower-order batsman, scoring 253 runs in 27 innings at a strike rate of 161.14.

“I’m so happy that I am able to play for the Strikers again in a big tenth season of the Big Bash, and I have loved this competition from the very beginning,” said Rashid, who is currently representing the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

“The Strikers have been like a family to me since I joined them, and I am so thankful to the fans who have been supporting me and made me feel like Adelaide is my home.”

A loyalist

Rashid will stay at Adelaide at least for one more season, despite other franchise showing interesting in signing the leg-spinner.

Strikers head coach Jason Gillespie expressed his excitement at the return of Rashid, who has been a match-winner in the BBL.

“Rashid has been such a quality player and person for the city of Adelaide and the Strikers from the moment he arrived.

“We’re thrilled his world-class bowling and exciting batting will continue to entertain our loyal fans, and we want to again be challenging for a second title when the tournament begins.”

The tenth season of BBL is slated to begin in December, although the schedule is yet to be announced.
