BBL 10: New rules introduced to maximise entertainment value
Australia’s T20 tournament, the Big Bash League, is widely considered as the second-best T20 tournament in the world after the Indian Premier League. In its upcoming season, the Australian tournament authorities have decided to add a few new playing conditions which will help in enhancing the entertainment value. In the recent few years, the BBL has been scrutinised for being less entertaining as compared other popular T20 tournaments.

Here are the three factors that have been introduced this season –
Power Surge:
The usual powerplay overs last for the first six overs of each innings. The Big Bash League has now split it into two halves with the first mandatory part consisting of four overs upfront. The second instalment of two overs can be taken any time after the 11th over.
Bash Boost:
The winning side will gain three points from each victory. However, even the losing team can salvage a point via Bash Boost. This one point will be awarded to the team batting second if they are ahead of what the first team had scored in their first 10 overs. If not, then the fielding side shall receive the point.
The X-factor:
This allows the teams to bring in any of their 12th or 13th player into the play halfway through the first innings. If a player has bowled/batted in multiple over up to the point of substitution, then he shall not be eligible for the transfer.
The 10th edition of the Big Bash League begins on 10th December with Hobart Hurricanes facing Sydney Sixers in the inaugural game.
