BBL 10: Keemo Paul signs with Hobart Hurricanes for debut season

Paul

Hobart Hurricanes have roped in West Indies all-rounder Keemo Paul for the upcoming Big Bash League. This will be the West Indian’s debut stint in the BBL.

Paul joins England’s Dawid Malan as the second international signing for the Hurricanes. The name of their third overseas player will be announced on Thursday (November 19). 22-year-old Paul was highly recommended to the Hurricanes by Australian legend Ricky Ponting, who spent time with the youngster at the Delhi Capitals in this year’s IPL.

“I have spoken to Ricky here at the IPL about Hobart and Tasmania and he has spoken really positively about the team and the competition,” Paul said. “I also caught up with Griff (coach Adam Griffith) after our game recently, and it was great to hear more about the very exciting squad this year.”

Paul didn’t play a single game in IPL 2020 but he had an impressive outing in the Caribbean Premier League with nine wickets for the Guyana Amazon Warriors. The all-rounder has also previously played in the Pakistan Super League.

“Exciting young player”

Hurricanes head coach Adam Griffith confirmed Paul’s addition is a huge boost to the already exciting Hurricanes line-up.

“Keemo is another exciting young player, in the early stages of his international career,” Griffith said.

“A bowling all-rounder with very good skills, Keemo uses different types of slower balls, and loves bowling at the death. He’s also a hard-hitting batsman that can clear the fence, adding more power to our lower-middle order to finish off an innings.”

Paul will join the Hurricanes squad after West Indies’ T20I and Test series against New Zealand ends in mid-December. He will not be available for the Hurricanes’ first three games, including the opener on December 10.
