BBL 10: Jason Roy joins Perth Scorchers for 2020-21 edition
Perth Scorchers have signed England opening batsman Jason Roy for the upcoming Big Bash League edition. The Scorchers confirmed the news on their official Twitter account on Friday (October 23).
Roy becomes the second Englishman to join the franchise for the 2020-21 season after Liam Livingstone announced his return last week. However, there is some uncertainty around when he can join the Scorchers down under. England’s white-ball tour of South Africa is slated to begin on November 27 and the opener is a given starter in the playing eleven. Once the series ends of December 9, Roy will have to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine period upon his arrival in Australia, which means he’ll be able to join the BBL side late December.

The Scorchers also announced two more signings, Joel Paris and Cameron Gannon, and have become the first BBL franchise to complete their roster.
“The Scorchers squad looks very strong, I’m excited to be joining the club,” Roy said.
“I’ve heard the environment of the club is awesome and that it’s a place where everyone wants to help get the best out of each other. I can’t wait to get amongst the boys and help contribute to as many wins as possible.”
“World-class performer”
Former Australia cricketer and Scorchers coach Adam Voges expressed his excitement on signing England’s explosive white-ball specialist.
“Jason is a world-class performer who will bring added power and experience to our top order. He is a great competitor and we look forward to welcoming Jason to the Scorchers.
“It’s great to be able to maintain a really strong WA flavour to our Scorchers squad. Both Joel and Cam bring plenty of experience and can fill a variety of roles throughout the tournament for us.”
The Mitchell Marsh-led side finished in the bottom half of the table last season, with 12 points in 14 games. With a balanced, all-round squad, they’ll be hoping to go all the way in the tournament this time around.
