Batters with most runs at No. 11 in Test cricket
Test cricket often brings the best out of the batters and bowlers alike. The batters are entrusted with making the bulk of the runs for the team. Meanwhile, the bowlers run the hard yards and do the damage with the ball in hand. But sometimes the tail-end batter provides some runs along with entertainment with the bat in hand.
Here are the leading run-scorers at the No. 11 position in Test history
3. James Anderson (England) – 618 runs
James Anderson is famously known as the ‘King of Swing’ as he is arguably one of the greatest fast bowlers to have played the game. The English bowler is the third-highest wicket-taker in Tests with 650 wickets to his name and is the only pacer to reach this incredible figure. But the bowling spearhead can fend for himself with the bat as well, as he is the third-highest run-scorer at No. 11 in Tests, with 618 runs to his name.
2.Muttiah Muralitharan (Sri Lanka) – 623 runs
The legendary Sri Lankan off-spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan is the highest wicket-taker in Tests and ODIs and accounts for over 1300 wickets in international cricket. The off-spinner was known for bamboozling batters, especially with his wrong’un known as the ‘Doosra’. But the right-hand batter also gave a good account with the bat as he was blessed with some ability to hang around. The diminutive legend also has a half-century to his name, which came against India in 2001. He has 623 runs at No. 11.
1. Trent Boult (New Zealand) – 640 runs
Trent Boult is one of the most destructive bowlers with the new ball in hand in the longest form of the game. The left-arm quick is known for his nagging lines and ability to generate reverse swing with the old ball. The right-handed batter is probably one of the most entertaining No. 11 batters in the game. Boult is never shy of playing an attacking shot and can frustrate the opposition with the bat. With 640 runs to his name, he is now the batter with most runs at No. 11.
