Batsmen who have the most number of ducks in T20Is
The shortest format of the game, T20 is generally regarded as a batsman’s game. The sole purpose of a batsman in T20 cricket is to be as aggressive as possible and take the bowlers out for as many runs as they can. But with the mindset of attacking from the first ball itself, batsmen often end up playing a rash shot and get dismissed without troubling the scoreboard. Here we take a look at the batsmen with the most number of ducks in T20I cricket.
Shahid Afridi
The explosive Pakistani all-rounder was always a bit of a maverick with the bat in his hands. On his day, he could easily take the game away from the opposition. But more often than not, he was a frustrating figure to watch as his performances did not match up with his sheer talent. In 99 T20I matches and 91 innings, Afridi scored 1120 runs with 8 ducks to his name.
Thisara Perera
With his hitting prowess, Thisara Perera has won many matches for Sri Lanka, playing the role of a finisher. Coupled with his batting ability, Perera is also an able contributor with the ball in his hands, being versatile to bowl well enough in any situation. Having played 76 matches for Sri Lanka, Perera has scored 1120 runs in 67 innings, with 8 ducks to his name.
Luke Wright
Another all-rounder on the list, Luke Wright was known for his versatility and the ability to bat anywhere in the batting order. Currently out of the scheme of things in terms of selection for the national team, Wright played 51 matches and scored 759 runs in 44 innings. He was bowled out for a duck 9 times in his career.
Kevin O’Brien
Kevin O’Brien has been a mainstay for Ireland for many years and became a household name when he blasted the quickest century in a World Cup, during the 2011 edition of the tournament. He has also been a devastating performer in the shortest format of the game, scoring 1021 runs in the 73 matches which he has played. He has also been prone to playing rash shots though, getting dismissed for a duck 9 times in his career.
Tillakaratne Dilshan
Tillakaratne Dilshan’s career was completely transformed after he was promoted to the top of the order and became a firm fan favourite, due to his strokeplay and aggressive nature of batting. His contributions for Sri Lanka was not only limited to being a batsman though, as he was a handy off-spinner and an exceptional fielder as well. When it comes to his T20I career, Dilshan played 80 matches for his country and scored 1889 runs in 79 innings. Despite his achievements, he also has the unwanted distinction of being the batsman with the most ducks in T20I cricket – 10.
