Barbados Royals players recreate Team India’s ‘Kala Chashma’ celebration after winning The 6IXTY
Barbados Royals Women were named the champions of the first season of 6IXTY, a one-of-a-kind tournament that was launched by Cricket West Indies this year. Skipper Hayley Matthews lifted the trophy in style after Barbados Royals defeated Trinbago Knight Riders Women at Warner Park on Sunday. What grabbed everyone’s attention was the Royals team recreating the Indian men’s team’s ‘Kala Chashma’ celebration post their victory.
The Indian men’s team had put up a little performance on the song after winning the series against Zimbabwe last week. The team, led by KL Rahul completed another whitewash and defeated Zimbabwe 3-0 in the series. The team members danced to the tunes of Kala Chashma in the dressing room post the sweet victory, and before the Hayley Matthews-led side enacted the same in their unique style, it was replicated by the Hong Kong men’s team after they won the Asia Cup qualifiers.
Shakera Selman casted a dream spell to take Barbados Royals to victory
Speaking of how the final game panned out, the Trinbago Knight Riders women were stunned by a spell cast by Shakera Selman, who mostly assisted Barbados Royals in becoming the first team to win the women’s 6IXTY tournament. Selman took three wickets in the ninth over of the 10-over game, to clean out the Knight Riders’ batters and secure a 15-run triumph.
Earlier in the game, the Barbados Royals had managed to score 65 runs in their 60-ball quota, courtesy of a strong opening stand between Aaliyah Alleyne and Matthews. A quick cameo by Chinelle Henry, who notched up a four and a six to amass 15 runs off 11 deliveries helped the side reach a good total. As per the rules of the tournament, an innings ends when six wickets fall and that is what happened with the Royals as they lost six players within 9.2 overs.
Knight Riders were in a tight situation at the end of the eighth over as they had managed to score 47 runs at the loss of three wickets, and needed 19 runs to win off the final 12 deliveries with just three wickets in hand. That is when Shakera Selman entered and picked up three wickets on the first, third, and final delivery of the penultimate over to put an end to the Knight Riders’ chase. As a result, the Barbados Royals lifted the cup in style.
