Bangladeshi cricketers call off strike; India tour gets green signal
On Monday, 21st October, Bangladeshi cricketers shocked the cricketing fraternity by taking on their own cricket board. Plenty of prominent cricketers came together to call a strike of sorts. The players gave their demands to the board and refused to play further until the requirements were met. Yesterday (23rd October) Bangladesh Cricket Board conceded most of the demands and the players have now called off the strike.
“We have agreed to meet up most of their demands,” BCB Chief Nazmul Hasan clarified in a joint press conference where Bangladesh’s iconic cricketer Shakib al Hasan was sitting beside him at the board room. “We had earlier decided to cancel the third round of the NCL, but as the players decided to play we have shifted it to next Saturday. The national camp will start from October 25,” he said. This serves as the practice camp for the upcoming tour if India which begins from November 3.
“They (players) had sent 11 demands where BCB had nothing to do with the CWAB related demand while we have decided to agree on the remaining demands apart from the one where it was stated that players will be allowed to play in more than two franchise-based tournaments,” BCB chief said. “I don’t think there are many players who are offered more than two franchise-based tournaments and we will take the decision regarding participation of them in the franchise-based cricket on a case-to-case basis,” he added.
Players to continue the tour
Shakib gave his response after the meeting with board officials got over. “Today we are happy, We can say how satisfied we are when these assurances will be implemented,” he said. “We raised two demands just now and the board needs time to discuss about it. I am okay with it for the time being. We are joining the national camp from October 25,” Bangladesh’s leading all-rounder added.
Bangladesh will be touring India for three T20Is and two Test matches next month. The first T20I will be played at Delhi on 3rd November.
