Bangladesh rope Rangana Herath and Ashwell Prince in coaching setup
Bangladesh is all set to resume international duties as they will be square off against Zimbabwe in an all-format tour, starting from June 7 at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will lock horns with each other in a lone Test match followed by three One Day Internationals and as many T20 Internationals.
Ahead of the Zimbabwe tour, Bangladesh have made some big changes in their team management. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has roped in former Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath as their consultant for spin bowling. Former South Africa batsman Ashwell Prince has also joined the Bangladesh National Men’s team as their consultant for batting.
The Sri Lankan spinner has replaced Vettori while Prince has been included in place of Jon Lewis. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) released an official statement on Saturday, June 25 to confirm the signing of both the players. Herath and Prince will join the Bangladesh coaching team in Zimbabwe and will be in the role until the end of Bangladesh’s campaign in this year’s T20 WC.
Prince was a good batsman and we have spoken with our head coach Domingo: BCB
Notably, Herath is one of the most successful spinners in the history of the purest format of the game. The veteran has picked a whopping 433 scalps in an illustrious Test career that spanned over two decades. The 43-year-old is also an ICC/SLC Level 3 coach specializing in spin bowling.
Prince, on the other hand, has represented South Africa on the highest level 119 times. The 44-year-old is a Level three coach and has previously worked with South Africa A as their batting consultant.
“At this point, getting a coach is very difficult due to Covid, so we have picked them on a short-term basis and if we find them satisfactory, we will continue with them,” BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told reporters on Saturday.
”Prince was a good batsman and we have spoken with our head coach (Domingo) before including him in our set-up. If the players like Herath and we are happy certainly we will think about him beyond the T20 WC,” he said.
