Bangladesh pacer Ebadot Hossain gives one of the best post-match interviews
It could not have been a better start to the year for the Bangladesh side as they scripted their first victory on the New Zealand soil in any format. It indeed was an emotional moment for the whole country, as they managed to cause an upset to the World Champions in away conditions. The 27-year-old Ebadot Hossain who is also an active soldier of the Bangladesh air force played a crucial role in the victory with an excellent six-wicket haul.
Coming into day five of the Mount Maunganui Test, New Zealand had lost five wickets in their second innings, and they had a tough task on their hands. As many as five New Zealand batters did not move the scorers and eventually, they were dismissed for just 169 to set a target of 42.
Bangladesh ended up winning the Test by 8 wickets and have now taken a 1-0 lead in the series as well. Ebadot Hossain after winning the well-deserved man of the match gave one of the best speeches in the post-match conference.
We set a goal this time, says Ebadot Hossain
Ebadot Hossain mentioned that the Bangladesh side came to New Zealand with lots of hunger and a goal set to rescript the 21 years wait for a win. He also noted Ottis Gibson’s role in improving his bowling lengths in the last two years and revealed the determination to do well and inspire the next generation.
“In New Zealand soil, our brothers and teams didn’t get a win in the last 21 years. We set a goal this time. We raised our hand and said ‘We have to beat New Zealand in their own soil and we can do it.’ They are Test champions, if we can beat them our next generation will be inspired,”
“In the last two years, I am working with Ottis Gibson. Conditions are always flat at home. We are still learning how to bowl and reverse in away conditions. I am trying to hit the top of the stumps. I needed to be a little patient for success to come,” Ebadot said in the post-match conference
Ebadot Hossain is a multi-sport talent who started his career with volleyball and had to transform into a cricketer. His spell of 6 for 46 in the 21 overs broke the backbone of the New Zealand batting lineup and paved the way for a historic victory.
“I am a soldier of Bangladesh Air Force so I know how to do the salute. It was a long story, from volleyball to cricket. I am enjoying cricket, representing Bangladesh and Bangladesh Air Force,” he added.
Ebadot Hossain is now our favourite cricketer.
