Bangladesh announce squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023

Bangladesh have named their 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, which is slated to begin on August 30 in Multan. 22-year-old Tanzid Hasan has been called up for the mega tournament after having a terrific time in domestic cricket. He will be replacing Tamim Iqbal in the squad, who is currently out with a back injury. The opener has also stepped down as the skipper of the ODI team as BCB chairman Nazmul Hassan Papon has confirmed that veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will be at the helm of things in the upcoming two major tournaments.

When it comes to Tanzid, the cricketer has hit three half-centuries in the recently concluded Emerging Asia Cup. He was one of the most dependable batters for the team and hence, the cricketer has been called up for the Asia Cup. He was sensational in the last edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as well and thus, a lot is expected from the cricketer.

On the other hand, Shamim Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, and Nasum Ahmed have been recalled in the team. Rony Talukdar, who was spectacular in the last edition of BPL misses out along with Taijul Islam, who has played only four matches in the last four months.

Meanwhile, veteran batter Mahmudllah has once again failed to make the cut. He last represented the Bangla Tigers in March 2023 and ever since he has been out of contention. While announcing the team for the Ireland series, the selectors stated that the cricketer has been rested but later on, he missed the Afghanistan series and now, he is not a part of the squad that will play in the Asia Cup.

Shakib meanwhile will have a tough job on his hands. Bangladesh have gone through turmoil in the recent past and thus, he will have to take control of the dressing room as well.
