Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain on trial for adultery
As per the latest developments, Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain has gone on trial after being charged with adultery. Nasir, who represented Bangladesh in more than 100 games, married Tamima Sultana in February 2021. Her first husband Rakib Hasan has filed a case against the Bangladesh International, claiming he is still married to Tamima.
It must be noted that Bangladeshi men, but not women, can be punished for adultery in the country, although cases are rare. Hence, Nasir could face seven-year imprisonment if he’s found guilty. As far as Tamima is concerned, she has been charged with forgery. Rakib’s lawyer Ishrat Hasan claimed that his client’s first wife made a fake divorce notice in order to marry Hossain.

“Tamima has forged divorce documents and postal receipts to show that she was no longer married with Rakib,” Ishrat Hasan was quoted as saying by Mirror.co.uk. Meanwhile, Farid Uddin Khan, who is representing both Hossain and his wife, is confident the couple won’t be found guilty.
“Adultery cases are rare. Usually, it’s tough to prove. We are confident these charges cannot be proved,” said Khan. Meanwhile, the pair is currently out of bail.
Speaking of Nasir Hossain, the veteran all-rounder was once the vital cog of the national team across formats. Making his debut in August 2011, Nasir didn’t take long in becoming a vital cog of the national team. His ability to score crucial runs lower down the order and chip in with occasional off-spins made him a great asset.
However, irregular performances meant the all-rounder could never cement his place in the side. Coming to his numbers, he scored 1044, 1281 and 370 runs in 19 Tests, 65 ODIs and 31 T20Is respectively. He also has 39 international wickets under his belt. His last international appearance came against Bangladesh in a 2018 ODI. Hossain scored three runs and wicketless in that game as Bangladesh scored a 11-wicket defeat. The 30-year-old was last seen in the National Cricket League 2021, the primary First-Class competition in the country. He represented Rangpur Division in the competition.
