Bancroft to be replaced by Harris for Headingley Test: Reports
Australia are set to replace opener Cameron Bancroft with Marcus Harris for the third Ashes Test in Leeds if reports are to be believed. The opener has failed to convert various starts so far in the two Test matches he has played in. To solidify a batting order already reeling with Steve Smith’s absence, the team management have decided to pair up Harris alongside David Warner.
Bancroft has registered scores of 8, 7, 13 and 16 so far in the Ashes. Warner’s below-par form has further added to Australia’s struggles at the top of the order. Smith has often been the man that the Australians have turned to dig them out of a hole. Australia will now hope that the Harris-Warner partnership yields better results.
Harris has shown flashes of brilliance in his short career at the top of the order for Australia. Having played 6 matches, he has scored 327 runs at an average of 32.70 and a highest score of 79. Bancroft was chosen ahead of him during the Ashes due to his good form in the County Championship.
Harris will not be the only change which Australia will make for the second Test. Marnus Labuschagne is all set to replace Smith in the middle-order. Reports have also suggested that pacer James Pattinson will replace Peter Siddle as Australia continue their rotation policy for the fast bowlers.
Australia currently lead the 5-match series 1-0 after a commanding win in the opening Test at Edgbaston. The second Test at Lord’s ended in a draw after various rain interruptions throughout the contest.
