BAN vs IND: 2nd Test, Day 3 Talking Points
Mehidy Hasan Miraz continued his terrific run against the Indian team as Day 3 ended on a balanced note. Bangladesh’s second innings ended at 231 runs on Day 3 with Zakir Hasan and Litton Das scoring fifties. All five Indian bowlers put in impressive spells with Axar Patel grabbing three wickets and Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Siraj taking two wickets each.
While chasing a low 145-run target, the Indian top-order struggled as Mehidy Hasan took three wickets in the final session of the day. The officials called it for stumps for Day 3 as Indian teams ended at a score of 45/4 in 23 overs with Axar Patel and nightwatchman Jaydev Unadkat on the crease. So, let’s look at three talking points for Day 3 of the second Test match between Bangladesh and India.
3. Virat Kohli ends 2022 without a Test century
The star Indian batter ended his poor run of form with a century in the Asia Cup 2022 and then scored another hundred against Bangladesh in the third ODI of this series. But Kohli failed to continue his form in red-ball cricket. He scored 20 across two innings in the first Test in Chattogram, and was bowled out for just one run in the second innings of the second Test on Day 3. His last century came in November 2019 against Bangladesh as his Test century draught continues.
2. KL Rahul struggles to get going
The stand-in Indian captain has been excellent with his leadership skills in this series so far but his performances with the bat continue to attract criticism from fans. After scoring 22, 23, and 10 runs in his last three innings, he was under pressure to perform in the final innings on Day 3. But Rahul was caught behind by Nurul Hasan off Shakib Al Hasan’s delivery in the third over as he failed to make any impact with a bat in this series.
1. Mehidy Hasan continues to haunt India
The 25-year-old all-rounder scored 38* and 100* in the ODI series against India to guide the hosts to a memorable win. He continued to trouble India in the Test series with his off-spin and made the biggest impact on Day 3. He took three valuable wickets of Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Virat Kohli to give Bangladesh the opening they required, while defending 145 runs in the second Test match.
