The duo stitched a partnership of 124 for the first wicket and Shanto reached his half-century during the process. They were quite determined to put up a strong effort in the final innings and managed to get the side off to a great start.
2. Axar Patel leads India’s comeback in the bowling department
Axar Patel was the pick of the bowlers for India and managed to extract something out of the pitch despite its flatness. He started with a peach to Yasir Ali who was knocked over. He further went on to castle Mushfiqur Rahim with a similar kind of delivery. Patel deceived wicketkeeper batter Nurul Hasan who lost his balance and got stumped. The all-rounder finished with 3 for 50 in his 27 overs with ten maidens.
1. Zakir Hasan’s maiden ton on Test Debut
The story of the day was the impressive debutant Zakir Hasan who scored his maiden Test century on debut. The 24-year-old played 224 balls for his 100-run knock which comprised of 12 fours and a six. The left-hander used the sweep shots to his advantage and was quite precise in his footwork throughout the innings. His knock finally came to an end in the 79th over of the innings when he inside-edged a delivery from R Ashwin and it popped into the hands of the fielder at slip.
