Avesh Khan dedicates Player of the Match award to hospitalized mother

The Lucknow Super Giants applied the brakes on the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their chase to snatch a 12-run win in their IPL 2022 clash at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on April 4. It was their bowlers who showed a lot of grit and determination to successfully defend 169.

While West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder bowled a match-winning spell taking three wickets in the final over, it was young pacer Avesh Khan who provided breakthroughs at regular intervals early on and ensured that the asking rate was already beyond SRH’s reach by the time things came down to the last over.

Meanwhile, the emerging bowler has dedicated his Man of the Match performance to a very special person in his life and it happens to be his mother who is hospitalized.

I would like to dedicate this performance to my mother: Avesh Khan

“I would like to dedicate this performance to my mother who is hospitalized. I received a lot of support from her. After the match, I picked up my phone and connected with her on a video call, and gave her the details of the match. By God’s grace, she is fine now”, said Avesh Khan while speaking to his teammate Deepak Hooda during a post-match interaction.

Hooda himself scored a match-winning half-century. Not only did he score 51 runs from 33 deliveries at a strike rate of 154.5 after Lucknow was reduced to 27/3 in the fifth over but also helped his team in posting a fighting total which proved to be a winning one in the end.

Avesh Khan was the pick of the bowlers for Lucknow Super Giants as he finished with figures of 4/24 from his four overs at an economy rate of six.  He is now the second-highest wicket-taker this season, behind KKR pace sensation Umesh Yadav, with seven scalps from three matches at an average of 13.57 and an economy rate of 8.14.
