Australian skipper Tim Paine targetted by robbers who steal his wallet

Australia

Australian Test skipper Tim Paine has been targetted by a band of robbers, who broke his car windows and stole his wallet. As the people of the country adjust to living life indoors amidst the Coronavirus pandemic, there was even more trouble brewing for the wicketkeeper-batsman.

Paine decided to park his car outside the house, in order to convert his garage into a home gym. But this handed the robbers a perfect opportunity to break into his car and steal some items, including his wallet. Paine realized his folly when he received a message that his credit card had been used.

Speaking on the incident, Paine said as quoted by cricket.com.au:

“I woke up this morning to a message from NAB saying I had some interesting movements on my account. I went out and the (car) door was open and my wallet and a few other things had gone. Actually looking at my account, the boys went straight to Maccas – the boys must have been hungry.”

Cricketers brace for pay cuts

Paine also added that the Australian cricketers were ready to accept pay cuts, as it was their responsibility to contribute to the community.

“If things happen similar to what’s happened to football and other sports, then we’ve certainly got to do our bit to make sure the game survives and remains really healthy for years to come.”

This notion was also endorsed by English skipper Joe Root, who expected pay cuts for the cricketers at all levels to be announced soon. Speaking to ICC’s official website, Root said:

“I am sure at some point in the coming weeks there will be a discussion but those discussions will probably take place between the PCA and the ECB. Until that happens, that is not my area of expertise.”
