Australian pacer Jhye Richardson ruled out of 2019 World Cup

Pacer Jhye Richardson who had recently established himself as a crucial member of the Australian set-up has been ruled out of the World Cup with a dislocated shoulder. He will be replaced in the squad by Kane Richardson.

Richardson was exceptional for Australia in their 3-2 series win against India, picking up 7 wickets. He has impressed one and all with his ability to swing the ball, control and variations of pace.

Richardson got injured during the second ODI of the series against Pakistan in Sharjah. Despite getting adequate rest, Richardson hasn’t recovered completely yet to travel to the UK for the marquee tournament.

Australia’s physiotherapist David Beakley said on Richardson’s injury:

“This is obviously very disappointing news for the team and for Jhye, who has been exceptional throughout his rehabilitation process. After his most recent assessment and attempting to bowl in the nets, it was clear that Jhye was not progressing as fast as required and therefore, in consultation with selectors, we made the decision to withdraw him from the squad. Jhye will continue with his rehabilitation and we will look to resume bowling in the coming weeks. At this stage, we are still hopeful that he could be available for Australia A tour of England.”

The selectors have decided to replace him with Kane Richardson, instead of the more experienced Josh Hazlewood. Hazlewood is expected to play a key role in the upcoming Ashes series and is currently recovering from a back stress fracture.

Australia will play a couple of warm-up matches against England and Sri Lanka before beginning their campaign against Afghanistan on June 1.
