Australia fined 40 percent match fee, four Championship points for slow-over rate
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Australia 40 percent of their match fee along with deducting four World Test Championship points for maintaining a slow over-rate in the 2nd Test against India.
As per the ICC regulations, a team loses two points and 20 percent of their match fee for each over that they fail to bowl in the given time. ICC match referee David Boon handed the penalty after they were found two overs short of the target over-rate.
Australia is the second such Test nation to be fined by cricket’s apex body. Earlier this year, South Africa also lost points for a similar over-rate offence. Despite the four-point loss, Australia continue to remain at the top of the Championship points table with 322 points.
