Australia captain Aaron Finch to be available for warm-up game against India
In what can be called a major boost for the Australian cricket team, Aaron Finch’s recovery from knee surgery in August has been ahead of schedule. Hence, the Aussie skipper would be available for the T20 World Cup warm-up game against India on October 20. For the unversed, the dashing opener underwent surgery in August earlier this year in order to repair cartilage, a type of connective tissue, in his right knee.
The surgery kept Finch out of action for a while and the 34-year-old was also expected to miss Australia’s two warm-up games against New Zealand (October 18) and India. However, Finch’s recovery rate has been on the positive side and the same would allow him to take the field in the practice matches. The 34-year-old is also delighted by the fact.
Looking forward to getting out in the field: Aaron Finch
“Yeah, it is all good. I think it’s nine weeks tomorrow, post-surgery, so everything has come along really well. It is probably a couple of weeks ahead of schedule,” he said at the pre-tournament virtual media interaction on Thursday (October 14).
“Originally it was probably touch and go to be available for the two warm up games, but at the moment it is looking like there will be no problems, so looking forward to getting out and getting back into it,” the veteran opener added.
Meanwhile, Finch has backed his opening partner David Warner to deliver in the global event. Notably, the left-handed batter was been under fire in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 where he got sacked as Sunrisers Hyderabad captain midway. However, the Aussie skipper believes Warner can deliver at the big stage.
“We have seen him in great spirits, he is coming here with a great attitude and he is organising things behind the scenes, he is doing everything that he loves to do, I have got no issues that come game one he will be ready to go,” asserted Warner.
While Australia have five ODI World Cups and a couple of Champions Trophy titles in their cabinet, the T20 World Cup title is still elusive for them. Hence, it would be interesting to see if the upcoming competition pans out.
