Australia announce squad for Sri Lanka T20Is
The Australian cricket team has announced the squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the Sri Lankan side. This T20I series will commence on 11th February 2022.
Bating stalwart David Warner will miss the series, and wicketkeeper Ben McDermott has been included in the squad after a riveting run in the Big Bash League (BBL) with the willow in hand. McDermott amassed 577 runs in the tournament and scored them at a strike rate of over 150.
Left-handed batter Travis Head, all-rounder Moises Henriques, as well as right-arm pace bowler Jhye Richardson, have made a return to the Australian squad for the limited-overs rubber against the Sri Lankan outfit.
Justin Langer to miss T20I series against Sri Lanka
The head coach of the Australian side, Justin Langer will miss the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka as he will be busy preparing for Australia’s full-fledged tour to Pakistan in March this year. The Aussies will play 3 Tests, 3 ODIs as well as a T20I match against the Pakistan outfit.
And, Andrew McDonald will don the hat of the Australian head coach for the T20I series against the Sri Lankan side. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh will not play the T20I series against the Sri Lankan side as well. Aaron Finch will continue to lead the Australian side in the five-match series.
Meanwhile, Ben McDermott said that he feels ready to play for the Australian cricket team at the international level. McDermott also added that he is at the top of his game right now.
“I don’t think that I wasn’t ready to play for Australia (before), but I do feel ready now. I feel like I’m at the top of my game,” said Ben McDermott.
