Australia announce 15-member squad for World Cup 2023
Five-time champions Australia have announced their 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup which will be played in India in October-November. It is to be noted that earlier Australia came up with their 18-member provisional squad but have now boiled down to 15 players with Aaron Hardie, Nathan Ellis, and Tanveer Sangha missing the bus. In the same light, Test specialist Marnus Labuschagne has also been overlooked for the marquee ICC event.
Australia would be high on confidence starting their journey in the World Cup 2023 as they have already bagged an ICC title this year. Australia faced India in the World Test Championship Final of 2021-2023 and were absolutely clinical to clinch the Test mace.
The most successful World Cup side will kick off their journey in a high-voltage clash against India on October 8, which will be played at MA Chidambaram in Chennai. This would also mark the opening fixture of India, who are set to host the tournament entirely.
Australia will then face South Africa in their World Cup journey on October 12 and the match will be played at Ekana International Stadium in Lucknow. Ahead of their World Cup journey, Australia are set to tour India for a three-match ODI series which will serve as a perfect practice going into the mega event. The ODI series between the two heavyweights will begin on September 22 and they will clash for five T20Is as well after the conclusion of the World Cup.
